Florence, ItalyWe spent part of our honeymoon in Florence (June 2019) and it is literally one the best
cities abroad that we’ve traveled to. Florence is the capitol of Tuscany, so it’s a bigger Italian city. The vibes are a bit busier than vacation-ey which was a nice switch up because before Florence, we were in Venice which was super chill. | Getting ThereThe train station was relatively small and easy to navigate, its located near city and almost everything in Florence is walkable. The only not-fun part would be dragging your suitcases through the old stone streets, BUT, totally worth it. You could also take a taxi - but I thought walking was more fun. I guess it depends on how much luggage you have and how strong and/or nice your husband is, lol.
| Where We ateYOU GUYS. I had the best time of my life eating all of the Italian things in Florence. Every single day, I think about how I want to go back. There's just so many restaurant options since it's such a big city - so I don't blame you if you feel overwhelmed. Hopefully my suggestions will help to narrow things down!
Osteria Pastella
Via della Scala, 17 R, 50123 Firenze FI, Italy This restaurant would definitely be my top recommendation for Florence. I would suggest making a reservation like we did, because when we got there to check in there was a wait. First and foremost, Osteria Pastella has a menu item that involves truffles, pasta and a tableside cheese wheel performance. I also thought it was really cool how they provide glasses of complimentary prosecco upon your arrival and then a complimentary lemon cello shot at the end of your meal. La Menagere
Via de' Ginori, 8/R, 50123 Firenze Fl, Italy Part flower shop, part cocktail bar, part restaurant. Do yourself a favor and stop in here – it might be one of the prettiest places I’ve ever seen. Another awesome thing is that it’s open until 2:30am! Mercato Centrale
Piazza del Mercato Centrale, Via dell'Ariento, 50123 Fireze FL, Italy The market was legit. The lower level was filled with butcher shops, produce and other fresh finds and then the upper level of the market reminded me of a food court, sort of like Eataly if you’ve ever been. We went twice and had some really good pizza, really good cacio e pepe pasta. It a really cool experience to walk around such a huge place that was all dedicated to food. In the streets that outline the market there was also an outdoor market where you could shop for t-shirts, leather purses and all sorts of stuff. Very cool and colorful, it was so fun to walk through. Gelato Everywhere
I can’t tell you how many messages I got from followers about which gelato shops I HAD to go to because they served the BEST gelato in Florence. To be honest, we ate gelato all over the place and it all tasted the exact same. I did however, really love the raspberry cheesecake gelato from Gelati del Bondi - it was the best I had while I was there. Take it or leave it, either way I'm sure you will be eating amazing gelato every single night! Ciro and Sons
Piazza del Mercato Centrale, Via dell'Ariento, 50123 Fireze FL, Italy We walked past this place a couple of times and kept noticing a sign that said “World Champion Gluten Free Pizza.” LOL. How could we not try it? The pizza definitely passed the test, in fact, the whole menu was available in gluten-free form which was pretty awesome. I had the pear ravioli because everyone kept messaging me telling me that I can’t leave Italy without trying pear ravioli. I wasn’t in love with it, but it wasn’t horrible. The Arts Inn
Via del Porcellana 63R, 50123 Florence, Italy Best music of my life + super cool art and décor and fancy drinks. Such a great place to stop into for a few either before or after dinner!! | What We did in FLorence, ItalyEven though the trip was 90% drinking wine and eating carbs of all forms - we did some cool shit that didn't involve those two things. I kinda hate how people think it's lame to be "touristy" because I mean, that's what you are when you travel to another country, lol.
Piazza del Duomo
You just have to go - even if it's just to see it from the outside. It's one of the most visited places in Europe for a reason. We bought tickets general tickets online here but didn't want to wait in line and also, there's a dress code. I wasn't wearing sleeves and your shoulders need to be covered. That said, we only ended up using our tickets to check out a museum that was located behind the main cathedral - but it was still pretty freaking cool. We also climbed Giotto's Bell Tower - no need for a ticket for this one and there's so many great views along the way up. PS - the bell tower has 414 steps and I'm pretty confident it played a big role in helping to work off all that pasta. Get Out of The City
After a couple days of exploring the busy city by foot, we decided it would be amazing to spend a day seeing the country side and hills. We used Airbnb Experiences and found Stefano who took us in his old school mini Fiat 500 and took pictures of us. Not gonna lie, it was kinda weird because he made us pose awkwardly, like, a ton of times at different stops, haha. But, it was totally worth it because we got some cool pictures and we were able to connect with a local who took us to places we would of never known about if we tried to explore on our own. Florence is awesome. Compared to other places we've been in Italy like Positano or Salerno, it was definitely a bigger city. I like to think of it as like the New York or Chicago of the states, but like real old school and historic and definitely not Americanized at all, lol. There's SO much to do and see, I felt like I could of spent even more time here despite it being the longest leg of our honeymoon trip.
